What is the function of cilia and mucus in the trachea, bronchi, and bronchioles?

Cilia are hairs inside the are like air filters. Mucus however, traps smaller particles like pollen and smoke.

The cilia provides movement to the mucus so it can be expectorated and traps dirt inhaled in the air.
