Where in the human body does lactic acid build up?

Muscles.

During extensive exercise when the supply of oxygen is limited, muscle cells respire anaerobically in which glucose is converted to pyruvic acid and later to lactic acid. This accumulation of lactic acid in muscle makes it fatigue.
