why do you suppose the residence times for sediment, salts, and water are so different from each other?Hint:what do you know about relative rates of evaporation/condensation of water, velocity of moving water on continents, the velocity of movement of sedimentary particles during stream transport(except during floods!),the velocity of seafloor spreading and subduction, and the velocity of continent-continent collision? How would you go about making these estimates, based on what you have learned this term?(Another Hint: Do plate tectonic rates tell you anything about the rates of removal of sediments from the ocean basins by subduction and/or continent-continent collision?)
Now my ideas on this problem: I know that the residence times is output over input. so whatever the rate of water movement is increasing, the sedimentary movement and their rate also increases.also, the velocity of water is getting larger as seafloor spreading is going away from each other.
this is what i think.
